I did a major in Geography and went on to teach Geography to high school students. I have always loved this subject and its great that I am doing something that helps me to stay current with the subject I love so much. The study of Geography is exciting, challenging and relevant to today's world. I especially love reading different types of maps.
Geography demands good analytical skills and some computer skills. All Geography majors involve taking part in field work.
Most people who take Geography majors often take minors or second majors in urban planning, environmental sciences or transportation, because these combination work well when it comes to getting a job. I went on to do a degree in Teaching and I love teaching my subject.
Knowledge of Geography is essential in everyday life.Especially for those who travel much, whether tourist or nontourist. Those interested in economics and international politics the geographical knowledge is a must. With GIS and GPS becoming everyday tools the importance of geography has increased many fold.Geography is also the basis for planning esp.regional planning. The main disadvantage is that U cannot immediately start making money like engineers/IT experts.U need to spend some time to become established.
