I've been working in the field of artificial intelligence over 6 yreas.
1. Do you have any tips or advice for people considering this career? This is a very creative and exciting field. If you like challenge and interested in solving real-world problems, this field might be right for you. There are a lot to learn and learning will be your constant task as AI is evolving and advancing all the time.
Would you recommend this career?
If you are creative, innovative, and somewhat easily bored, I highly recommand this career.
If you had it to do over again, would you still choose to go into this career?
Definitely! Most of other science fields depend on AI algorithms for better results or realistic results. Therefore, AI is interesting in its own right but also can be widely applied to virtually any problem domains (bioinformatics, data analysis, information sciences, engineering, medical sciences, etc.).
What are the pros and cons?
Pros: a powerful tool to tackle real world problems and to answer hard questions. To take up difficult tasks that require intelligence. There is always potential breakthrough in terms of new algorithms and methods in problem solving.
Cons: Still AI isn't its full development in its several fields e.g. robotics, natural language understanding, inference, (but still very hopeful and promising).
What should people know about this career that they might not have heard about?
Amazon.com uses an AI algorithm called association rule analysis to suggest/recommand similar products. There is already a humanoid that can walk up and down stairs and can run. There are always something to work on using AI skills and if you are an expert in couple of fields in AI, you will be very popular when you are looking for a job.
