You've got to have a passion for crafts to be successful in this field. My passion has led me to test the limits, and to make my ideas really come to life, despite some people's opionions that "these things cannot be done". I would go into this field again, and likely take a less roundabout way to it, but that's because i didn't even think about this field before stumbling across it by mistake. It gives me great satisfaction to envision a piece of furniture that fulfills the requirments laid down by the costumer, and add some touch to it so that it doesn't look like a generic furniture. But the fun is just begining, because creating that furniture from the raw materials is a fun process. I'm not saying it can't be tedious at times, and there are setbacks you don't always forsee, but the joy of the process overrules those things. It is my belief that keeping that joy in mind when the going gets tough makes it easier to deal with the problems you face. There are always new things to learn, and always pay attention to what others are doing. Don't be afraid to work for others to gain experience, and to learn from them how they work and operate their business, but be sure to see what works, and what doesn't and learn from it. It's a very creative work, though sometimes can be very physical, but the combination of physical work, and working by the computer to create a 3D model for your costumers to better understand your idea is great in my opinion. |
