My current career is as an Assistant Planner at an aircraft repair station. The main thing I like about my job is that for the most part, I work independently. I don't have to constantly deal with other people, and pretty much I don't have to depend on someone else to get something done in order for me to be able to do my work. Another thing I like is the chance to work around planes all day. It's really a pretty neat experience, and definitely not something I was expecting to do. The other thing I like about my job is the opportunity for advancement if you do good work. I started off with my company as a data entry clerk through a temp agency. I was hired on direct and then promoted three times. What I don't like about my job is there is a lot of stress because the work being done is obviously very important. I have to make sure we have all the right parts and tools to do the work, make sure we have enough mechanics, etc. Also, we are closely watched and routinely audited by the FAA. Basically though, as long as you are doing a good job, there's nothing to worry about. My advice to anyone considering going into a job in aspect of aviation would be to go for it. I mean the days of making $60 an hour at an airline are gone, but still making around $20 for a fun and not that difficult job seems like a good deal to me. Remember, you can always work your way up in this industry.
