It's best to live on campus to get to know people. The college is small with small classes which allows the teacher to get to know you. The main problem that exists today is the shortage of dorms. The shortage is basically forcing upper class men to move to apartments. Since there is a shortage of dorms, the school has been doing a lot of advertising for their new Montreal, Canada campus.
Champlain College is a great small school. You can easily walk to downtown Burlington. Most of the professors has real world experience in their field. The food is good for college food but the dining hall can get overcrowded at peak times. The dorms are almost all small converted Victorian mansion houses in the area. They house 30-50 people each. There is an increasingly bad housing problem though and you may not be guaranteed housing after freshmen year. I have heard bad things about Spinner Place, the apartments they lease as housing that are a 15 minute bus ride away from campus.
