IF you are looking for a warm layed back atmosphere and not too challenging school work then I would recomend going to Old Dominion. If I had to do it over again I would definitly choose ODU. This school is fun because you meet alot of people in the dorm and the parties are really good at first but after a while they start to die down so if your looking for a crazy weekend you need to know people or join a fraternaty/sorority. You need to watch your back around here though because the campus is surrounded by low class neighborhoods so there is alot of violence, robberies and sexual assualt.
One tip or piece of advice I have for students considering Old Dominion University is to pay attention. It sounds like an obvious thing, but one would be surprised how little attention people pay and then come test time don't know a few things. Another piece of advice I would recommend is if the prospective students are in Virginia, take into account the distance learning program. I am there right now and it is a LOT less money!!! All one has to pay is tuition and a general fee (which if you get financial aid for full-time enrollment, it should cover the costs) and books (but you have to pay for those out of pocket or credit card). I love this college and plan on re-entering in 2011 for my Master's degree. Pros for this college include their distance learning program and cons include being out of state and trying to do the on-campus OR distance-learning thing. People have probably not heard about the distance learning program (except from me) if they have even heard of the college, and I highly recommend it.
I would recommend this college to anyone already set on attending college in the Hampton Roads area of southeast Virginia. Norfolk is not a particularly beautiful city, but Virginia Beach is a short drive away, and anyone wanting to go to medical school might like to know that the nearby Eastern Virginia Medical School has a high acceptance ratio for Old Dominion University graduates. There are even streamlined programs available to segue right into EVMS after graduation.
Old Dominion University is offers a number of remarkable undergraduate and graduate programs at a great price. I enjoyed my time at ODU and had I the choice, I would choose ODU again. Older students looking to return to college should really consider ODU which a balanced mix of ages attending.
I would reccomend this college to anybody I knew. The thing that I like best about Old Dominion is that even though the school is in the city, you still feel safe. Also, if you have children, they have on-campus daycare. The only real con about the school is that parking is terrible, because you are in the city. If you are planning on applying you should meet with an admissions councelor.
