I would definitely recommend this college to people who aren't used to urban settings. It is a great campus, and offers students many opportunities for internships and learning experiences being located very close to downtown Pittsburgh. Although it is a large school, my advisors have always made it feel like a small school. It is definitely very competitive, yet ruthless when it comes to financial matters. I've been here six years and I love it!

Located in an urban environment, the School of Information Science at the University of Pittsburgh has been at the forefront if library education for decades. Completely integrated with new technology and methods, this school provides an excellent environment for working professionals or full-time students.

I would recommend this college highly and would chose to go there again. The setting is urban and interesting and there are several other colleges nearby so it has a good student atmosphere. There are lots of stores, eating places, parks to walk to. The con is that it's big and might be overwhelming to some. There are many students from NYC.

Be prepared for challenging courses and hard work. University of Pittsburgh is an excellent college and one that I highly recommend. If I had the opportunity to go to college again, I wouldn't change a thing. My years there were wonderful. I loved the campus, the students and the professors. The only con would be the weather. Pittsburgh winters can be extremely cold, snowy and unforgiving. Dress warm!

I absolutely loved attending the University of Pittsburgh. I am sad that I am graduating. I am not at all ready to leave. I have had such a great experience over the past four years. Some of my best memories are from football season. Make sure you get your student tickets! Tailgaiting for the games and cheering in the student section is so much fun! Get involved. I would definitely recommend this university. I actually started at Penn State University, but transferred to the University of Pittsburgh after just one semester. I am so glad that I did!

I would recommend attending the University of Pittsburgh's Main Campus for many reasons. One being that I enjoyed the diversity of activities a 'city' school had to offer. There are many things to do within the school's campus and much more within Pittsburgh itself. I'm a sports fan and being from Pittsburgh there was a variety of sports entertainment available to me. Two, was my education. I feel like I received a well balanced education and after talking with friends who have graduated from other schools, Pitt has a wider variety of classes available to a wide range of interests. Three were the people/students. Most are locals from the area of Pittsburgh and it's suburbs and are some of the nicest and greatest friends I still have to this date. I would still choose the University of Pittsburgh if I had to go back and do it all over again. Pittsburgh has grown culturally since I was a co-ed and I'd love to attend the school now since it has grown and seems to be growing more. Pros I would say are the education I received and the diversity of its students. Cons would be that the football field is no longer on campus. Freshmen now don't have to experience 'Cardiac Hill'. People should know that this just isn't a typical city school. It offers great activities, has great educational opportunities and would be an awesome choice of any incoming freshman.

DON'T GO HERE! I picked this college because of its study abroad program, which turned out to be great while I was abroad but hell when I got back. I had a really hard time getting credit to transfer and was told different things by different people about what to do. At the school itself, there are a wide range of classes available, but very few impressive teachers. The classes are insanely easy, the city's not terribly exciting, and the campus is ugly.

Lower level classes at Pitt are very large and impersonal. The Honor's College is a great way for Freshman to meet people and find a niche. The classes offered through the HC are highly recommended and you do not have to be a member of the HC to take them. HC versions of classes are smaller and have better teachers. This school has excellent Philosophy and History and Philosophy of Science departments.

The University of Pittsburgh ("Pitt") is a solid bet for undergraduate students looking for a large school in an urban setting. Like many large schools, Pitt has some classes in the early semesters that take place in huge amphitheater-sized classrooms. An incoming student looking for a more personal experience in "Intro to..." classes will be disappointed. Do note, though, that as those basic requirement classes are finished, the smaller the classes become as a major is pursued. A large school like Pitt offers many activities and extracurricular activities; everything from a college radio station to thriving football and basketball teams await an incoming student. The sort of student that might not do well at Pitt are those looking for a smaller, more intimate college. Pitt is a major part of an entire urban neighborhood in Pittsburgh. As such, there's lots of traffic, the roar of buses and people rushing from here to there. There's a good bit of ground to cover navigating from class to class and an incoming student should anticipate needing a good pair of walking shoes! Pitt has solid campus security and Pittsburgh itself a good police department; but this is a school in an urban setting and a student needs to have common sense about where they go at night, walking with a partner, etc. This is true of many campuses in this sort of settings and Pitt is far from unique in that regard. Pittsburgh winters are not nearly as brutal as those in places like Chicago or Cleveland. There's much less snow than those cities but an incoming student will have to deal with cold weather in the winter and some snow. I had a solid experience at Pitt and recommend it to anyone looking for a good education in the type of setting Pitt occupies!

Pitt is a great school for those looking to get a great education in a city environment. They offer a large variety of classes that allow you to pick and chose topics that interest you to fill requirements. The faculty, for the most part, are intelligent, interesting people who want to see you succeed.

It's a very research oriented school and offers a lot of opportunities as an undergrad to get research experience. And if you're interesting in psychology, it is a great place to be. You graduate with a BS instead of a BA and there are lots of research projects you can work on for credit.
