  Biology / Biological Sciences, General:

I would definately recommend studying the field of Biology. It is difficult in some aspects such as the Organic Chemistry requirements or the Physics requirement, but it is worth it if you love to study the science of all organisms around you. I do love the major, even with its difficulties, keep those in mind when you are picking it as well as keep in mind there are a lot of labs and research. If I had to do it over again, I would probably pick this major but minor in a either business or health science. The pros of this major are that it is good if you want to go to medical school, it is very interesting, always changing, and fun in lab. The cons are the amount of work and requirements, organic chemistry is hard, that if you don't like research you will probably be unhappy, otherwise I don't see many cons.

  Biochemistry / Biophysics and Molecular Biology:

I chose this major only because I enjoyed both Biology Classes and Chemistry classes, and this major allowed me to take some of both fields, in addition to one year of Biochemistry. I did not enjoy the molecular detail of Biochemistry. I do recommend this major though because you will be qualified for a greater variety of jobs than with a Biology or Chemistry degree alone. Biochemistry is also a good major to prepare you for medical school.

  Entomology:

Insects are one of the most interesting group of organisms to study. Entomology has so many different disciplines within it that studying it allows one to take many different career paths. It is not a "glamorous" major and some careers in entomology have lower pay (that do grow eventually).

  Biochemistry, Biophysics and Molecular Biology, Other:

Molecular Biophysics and Biochemistry is a really good major for anybody looking to go into any biological science field. In particular, it is really good for premeds and those looking to go into grad schools or industry. There are no cons for majoring in MB&B!

  Biochemistry:

I recommend this major for two types of people. First, I recommend this major to the Pre-med students who are looking for a solid foundation prior to entering medical school. Second, and more importantly I recommend this for anyone wanting to work in a lab in a science related field but who is not very sure which type of biology to choose. The major offers a wide range of options in future employment. With this degree you have a lot of jobs available in the biotech industry. Important to note is that this is more of a stepping stone as you will use this major to get your foot in the door. You will then be required to continue your learning in an ever changing field. That is the excitement of this major.

  Molecular Biology:

Molecular Biology is a very tough and chalenging maijor. Only consider this maijor if you are truly dedicated to science and do not mind spending long hours in the lab. The greatest benifit of this degree is the oppurtunites it presents for graduate studies, e.g. medical, pharmacy, pHd, optometry schools. The biggest cons are the amount of time you will spend studying and the poor pay you will recieve if you do not continue to higher education. If i had the choice I would definetly do this maijor again as biology is the only subject that truly intrests me.

Although Biology is an interesting field, an undergraduate degree is useless unless you plan on continuing your education. I am now in getting my PhD in pharmocology and toxicology with little help from what I learned as an undergraduate. If I would have to do it over I would dual major in biology and biochemistry.

study your notes every night. yes, i would recommend studying biochemistry. yes, i would do this major over. pros--lots of science jobs. cons-hard major.

I would recommend studying biology because it is broad enough allow you to puruse any of a number of various interests in the field of biology, from Ecology and Botany to Genetics and Microbiology. I believe that is definitely one of the pros. I would definitely choose biology again if I had to do it all over again. One of the cons is that it is a popular major, so there is a good amount of competition for jobs out of school for the large number of biology graduates that are produced every year, but another pro is that there are also a lot of jobs to fill. I would definitely advise biology students to take adavantage of special projects and internships that are available in university research labs to build up their lab experience and set themselves apart from the masses of other biology students.

  Genetics, General:

Biology is a facinating and fast growing field of science with a multitude of human applications. Understanding biological concepts is key in making healthly and informed choices for youself and family. If i had to do this over again , the only change i would make would be to egt into a research lab as soon as possibe. There are plenty of biology related job available. The only con is that in order to conduct your own research, i higher degree is often needed.

Biology is a very exciting career, not only because of the possibilities it offers within academia, but because of the many expanding industries that require a background in this field. While someone looking to do research will find knowledge of biology invaluable in the pushing of current boundries of science, a recent grad will have little trouble getting work as a tech, if they decide to go into industry. So, if you have any interest in science, you can find an aspect of biology that speaks to you. Make sure to explore; if you're turned off by the lab bench in molecular biology, try going into the field for some population biology. Put in the time, and you'll be well rewarded.

For most, you are only entering this major because you want to go to medical school. Once you enter into this major, you will learn that it's a horrible major as you would find out that your study buddies aren't trying to help you but trying to help you fail because their grade depends on everyone else's failure because they grade on a bell curve. Stay in the major if you like to be backstabbed and be told the wrong answers by your fellow classmates. If you really want to get into medical school and can't make it on the bell curve scale then I suggest choosing another major and taking premed courses because your science grades don't have to be very high and you can get a better chance getting into medical school as a non biology major. No, I would not recommend studying this major nor would I choose to do this over again.

  Molecular Biology:

Molecular biology is a fascinating and useful major, but it requires a lot of work. You have to take a lot of time-consuming prerequisites, such as chemistry lab. The classes in the major are a lot of work, but they are very interesting. I would definitely study molecular biology again. If you like biology, molecular biology is a good choice. However, if you are interested in anatomy, physiology or animal science, you may want to choose a different major. Molecular biology is a good choice for someone interested in molecular biology, cell biology, genetics, biochemistry or evolutionary biology. Basically, if you are interested in things you can't see without a microscope of some sort (or at all), this major is a good choice for you. Nevertheless, this major is useful for anyone with biology-related interest because it teaches you about the basic elements of the science. One advantage of a molecular biology degree is a very good stepping stone to a lot of graduate degrees (I'm currently working on a master's degree in epidemiology). However, this can also be something of a disadvantage, as the jobs you get with a B.S. in Molecular Biology are generally technician jobs. There is room for advancement as a technician, but there is definitely a ceiling for those without a graduate degree. It just depends on what you want out of your career. Anyone interested in pursuing a biology-related career should look at this major.

Although my major in biology did help with my subsequent career choice (dentistry) I feel that it could have been more streamlined towards my final goal.

A majority of the core classes are necessary. Basic classes such as chemistry, biology, and histology were very helpful in establishing a base for dental school. However, some of the extraneous classes such as genetics and even physics were not worth the time nor effort.

In addition, there were too many miscellaneous requirements. I did not understand why as a biology major I was required to have 3 semesters of english.

All in all though I would recommend biology as a major to anyone who is considering a profession in the health related sciences. The only exception would be if your university offers a pre-medical/pre-dental route in which they may tailor your classes more towards your eventual field.

  Biochemistry:

This is a field of study which requires a further degree (PhD specifically) to have any sort of career opportunities. A BS or BA in biochemistry will get you nothing more than a technician position with no opportunity for upward promotion. If I had it to do over again, I would not study biochemistry. While I still find the subject matter fascinating, and a noble field, the compensation for the difficulty of the subject is not on par with the engineering field, which it should be.

  Marine Biology and Biological Oceanography:

I loved everything about this major! Studying an area primarily unknown to man....the lure of the ocean...working in an environment composed of beaches and interesting critters! Marine science is so much more than playing with dolphins. You learn not only about the life in our waters, but also the physical,chemical and geological parts of our oceans that make Earth what it is today. Without knowing about all these aspects, it really is difficult to appreciate an environment that takes up so much of our planet.

Advice: Take AP Biology and Chemistry in High school I would recommend studying this if you are going into a premedical track or interested in taking the MCATS Yes I would have done this major over but taken more biology electives so I would have been better prepared for the MCATS. Pros: Great preparation for medical school Cons: You need at least a masters to get a good job at a pharmaceutical or research oriented position.

  Biochemistry:

this is a fun major. you can earn a lot of money. this is hard but it is rewarding because it gives you opportunities to go to a very very large number of careers in different fields. but when you are a student, you dont get time to do anything fun. if you are okay with this, then do it. .otherwise dont.

  Biology / Biological Sciences, General:

I recommend studying this if you have an analytical mind. Biology is a hard major if you have to memorize everything--it is much easier if you can reason through how things work, and then can remember them that way. It's a good major if you like to figure out the big picture from the small details--in biology, you can get as small (microbiology) or large (ecology) as you like, and everything still works as a system. If i had to do it again, I would definitely choose biology again. It requires a certain mindset--if you are meant to be a biology major, you'll soon know.
