Although there are many degree programs available to those interested in secretarial work, a college degree is not necessarily needed.
For high school students, it would be best to consider a vocational school that offers computer training. I would recommend working at an entry-level administrative support position, such as a receptionist or data entry specialist, to gain experience.
Benefits of this field are job availability in various industries, safe and comfortable working conditions, and flexible hours.
Some disadvantages of this field are moderate income and limited opportunity for advancement.
Good career. Not to challenging at all. I would do this again but only reccomend to to someone who is unsure of a career choice. This job can lead to many opportunities.
I would recommend this career to anyone who doesn't mind repetitive work and doesn't mind not being in charge. The work is relatively simple. You don't even have to be able to spell anymore with the spell check on the word processing programs.
Unfortunately, a lot of secretarial work is being phased out due to cut backs and the availability of technology allowing individuals to do their own clerical work or allowing it to be farmed out to outside sources.
Yes, I would still choose to go into this career as there is still a need for clerical workers in all areas of business. And, it is enjoyable and doesn't require being stressful.
